What I do
As an NXD and consultant, I’m a trusted adviser to agency leaders and their teams providing external perspective and proven expertise around all areas of agency operations from purpose to profit and people to process. Oh, and pitching!
I work with leaders to build commercial governance and operational resilience to create foundations for sustainable growth journeys. Running an agency is challenging and at times lonely, despite that I believe passionately that it should also be a fun experience.
Who am I?
I've spent over 3 decades working in agencies, and half of that running large agencies in the UK and Europe. As the son of a semi-famous marketing academic I was determined to go into the ‘family business’ but wasn’t smart enough to cut it in academia, so chose advertising instead.
I’ve spent the last 5 years working with over 100 ambitious agencies across a wide variety of shapes, sizes, geographies and disciplines to help them survive, drive and thrive. There isn’t a lot I’ve not seen. I’ve lost track of the number of mistakes I’ve made and seen so that you don’t have to repeat them (or ‘don’t be Danny’ as I like to say). A trained economist, certified director and a qualified coach, I’ve specific experience in branding, creative and B2B spaces, alongside network/international operations, new business and agency governance.

How I work
My work draws upon not only decades of experience working in and on agencies but also uses a range of tools and techniques collected and curated over many years.
My natural desire to get immersed in detail (I’m a Belbin Completer Finisher and an MBTI ESTJ) means I’m happy to get under the bonnet, but as a trained NXD and Coach I’m able also to take an unbiased and less emotionally vested approach. I draw on tools and techniques loosely drawn from EOS to structure most of my working cadences in order to help things run on track. Whilst no engagements are quite the same, most are based upon 2 hour monthly sessions run remotely for efficiencies. I work exclusively at Founder/MD level, although happy to engage with wider teams, or on larger more formal board structures.
